Dry Skin
Dry skin can be associated with numerous factors such as; environmental, nutritional, parasitic, allergic, neurogenic, and infectious. Environmental Dermatitis can be from dogs being allergic to grass, moist eczema from moisture on the skin's surface from rain, lakes, and ponds, and small scratches on the skin. Nutritional Dermatitis is usually caused from a low quality diet. Parasitic Dermatitis (fleas & ticks) cause scratching and itching and in some cases pets can even be allergic to the flea's saliva. Infectious Dermatitis is usually caused from bacteria, fungus, and yeast organisms which can cause odors as well as dry itchy skin. Allergic Dermatitis can be caused by numerous irritants however a few are; food allergies, medications, plant material, dust, etc. Neurogenic Dermatitis is usually seen in dogs as they obsessively chew and lick at a certain area. Most cases of Neurogenic Dermatitis may be from boredom, separation anxiety, frustration, etc.
