Spa Calcium (Scale)

Spa Calcium (Scale)

Calcium Hardness is the measurement of calcium minerals in the water. The calcium hardness level in spas is an important part of water balance. If the Calcium Hardness level is low (soft water), it can corrode the heaters, damage the surface of the spa and contribute to foaming issues. If Calcium Hardness is too high (hard water), it can cause scale build up and cloudy water.

Also important with high calcium levels is to treat phosphates. Calcium and phosphates will bond with one another creating calcium phosphate. Calcium phosphate will contribute to scaling as well as build up on salt generators and heat exchangers.  If phosphates are high we suggest using Spa PHOSfree to lower them.

Spa PHOSfree is formulated from lanthanum (rare earth) compounds. When added to your spa's skimmer, a thin coating of Spa PHOSfree forms on the filter media and as water flow through the filter, phosphates are reduced to near zero levels. Spa PHOSfree contains revolutionary technology that is specifically engineered for spas/hot tubs.

If the Calcium Hardness level is low, use Spa Calcium Hardness Increaser to add calcium hardness to your water

Spa Calcium Hardness Increaser is used to raise the calcium hardness in spa water. Calcium hardness in spa water should be maintained between 150-250ppm.

If the Calcium Hardness level is high we suggest using Natural Chemistry's Spa Stain & Scale. It is very difficult to remove high calcium level; however, Spa Stain & Scale will help keep the calcium minerals in solution so they do not cause scale build up or cloudy water.

Spa Stain & Scale protects your spa from the damaging effects of scale build-up and staining due to excessive calcium, iron, copper and other minerals. It works without the use of phosphates or harsh acids. Spa Stain & Scale also assists in preventing scale from forming on salt generator cells, helping maintain optimum performance.

Note: Problem solving must always begin with balancing water chemistry.
