Spa Staining
Staining in spas can be caused from metals or organics.
Metal Staining
Metal staining can appear in color as: blue, green or black (copper), rusty brown or greenish/brown (iron).
Metals can enter the spa a variety of ways, however, the most common are:
Source Water:
Well water is usually high with mineral content and municipality water can have up to 1.3ppm of metals as allowed by EPA standards
Equipment:
A common source of copper in spa water enters from heaters that have been corroded due to keeping the pH level too low for extended periods of time
To identify a metal stain, gently hold a Vitamin C tablet on the stain & let sit for 1 minute. If the stain is removed or lightened by the Vitamin C tablet, then the stain is a metal.

Organic Staining
Organic staining may be caused from a variety of sources, but the most common in spas occurs as the result of bather waste. Over time organics such as; cosmetics, lotions, body oils, hair products, etc., may cause these stains to appear. To identify an organic stain, hold a chlorine tablet on the stained area and let sit for 1 minute. If the stain is lightened by the chlorine, then the stain is caused by organics. If stains are caused from organics, we highly suggest using Spa Purge and Spa Perfect
